How it all began...

It all began in November  1981 when Bev Williams (associated with Border Downs Football Club) put an advertisement in the Murray Valley Standard newspaper asking  for people interested in forming a Netball Association which followed the River Murray Football League,  to attend a meeting at Tailem Bend Football Club. That pulled people from all 9 clubs of the Football League  and led to the creation of 7 netball clubs, with 18 teams in 3 senior grades in Season 1982. Those foundation clubs were Imperials, Ramblers, Jervois, Border Downs, Mannum, Mypolonga and Meningie.

The inaugural President of the River Murray Netball Association was Bob Tanner from Meningie with Bev Williams, Border Downs, as secretary . All matches were played parallel with River Murray Football League but for the first few years all finals were played at Tailem Bend. Several clubs did not have their own netball courts, so school courts were utilised until home courts could be built. In that first year Mannum was the most successful club winning premierships in all 3 grades.

From that humble beginning  River Murray Netball  Association has grown to include 5 senior grades and 8 junior grades. Currently affiliated clubs are – Imperials, Jervois  .Mannum Meningie Mypolonga  Ramblers and Tailem Bend. Most clubs now have 3 courts and all are improving their facilities.  Now the importance of the Association is recognised by the River Murray Football League with a meeting held at the beginning of each season to  ensure the smooth running and cooperation of both Associations.
